On Wednesday, September 20th, USJE convened a small Roundtable with USJE members who are Indigenous-identified employees and working within the federal Correctional system.
This USJE event was the occasion for members from the Quebec region to connect with each other while meeting their colleagues from the public safety realm in a fun and exciting setting that celebrated the recent achievements of our union.
Thanks to the over 350 Parole Officers, MAIs and Parole Officer Supervisors who completed USJE’s May 2023 survey, USJE has been able to gather some striking data regarding POCD training and workload. We are presently sharing this data with CSC and advocating for change.
On October 6, National President David Neufeld, RVP Bella Skalin and Local 00060 President Tracy Coates held a meet and greet with three USJE members from the RCMP detachment in Kitchener, ON. The intimate setting gave President Neufeld and RVP Skalin a unique opportunity to speak one-on-one with members.
Earlier today, representatives of the Union of Safety and Justice Employees visited Children North in La Ronge, Saskatchewan – Treaty 6 Territory, Traditional Land of the Woodland Cree and Homeland of the Metis – to see first-hand how their partnership assists children requiring pediatric therapies.
On Monday, October 16, 2023, representatives of the Union of Safety and Justice Employees will visit the Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECIP) in La Ronge, Saskatchewan – Treaty 6 Territory, Traditional Land of the Woodland Cree and Homeland of the Metis – to see first-hand how their partnership assists children requiring pediatric therapies.
USJE National President David Neufeld, and RVP JP Surette conducted a site visit at the Ontario Regional Public Safety Canada office located in Toronto, Ontario. They were greeted by Local 70093 Chief Shop Steward Joe Contorsi who provided a tour of the site.
As part of changes to the revised Shelter Cost Differential methodology implemented August 1, homeowners in five northern communities would no longer receive a housing cost subsidy to offset the high cost of living in the North.
