In May 2025, the province passed Bill 49, which establishes the framework for a Provincial Police Force, thereby enabling municipalities to potentially transition away from the RCMP and contract with the province for policing services.

USJE and PSAC leadership continued their tour of the Edmonton area on August 13 with visits to Elk Point, Fort Saskatchewan and Strathcona/Sherwood Park detachments.
The team from USJE and PSAC continued touring RCMP workplaces in the Edmonton area on August 12 to promote the joint campaign AlbertansForRCMP. The union representatives and staff met with USJE members who work in RCMP detachments located in the communities of Lac La Biche, Bonnyville and St. Paul.
With looming threats to jobs at the RCMP in Alberta, USJE and PSAC Prairies have partnered to advocate for the RCMP and the jobs of all of our USJE members across the province.
