On August 12, USJE National President David Neufeld and Regional Vice-President–NCR Jean-Paul Surette met with front-line members at the Court Administrative Services (CAS) in Toronto to discuss their important work in the courts system across Canada. The tour was facilitated by USJE Local 70125 President, Jena Russell.
On August 15-16, National President David Neufeld and Regional Vice-President Kirsty Havard, accompanied NDP Member of Parliament, Alistair MacGregor (Cowichan-Malahat-Langford) and Liberal Member of Parliament, Taleeb Noormohamed (Vancouver Granville), on visits to Mountain Institution (medium security) and Kent Institution (maximum security) located in Agassiz, British Columbia. MacGregor and Noormohamed both sit on the House Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.
On Tuesday, August 16th, National President, David Neufeld, alongside USJE Regional Vice-President for British Columbia & Yukon (RCMP-Justice-PPSC), Nicole Gibson and Local President, Zoe Johnston, visited Green Timbers RCMP E HQ in Surrey, British Columbia.
As the national public service union representing Detachment Services Assistants across the country, we are keen to work with the RCMP to ensure DSAs feel safe and supported in their workplaces. We also recognize that DSAs are vulnerable to trauma by virtue of how they interface with the public and their role in supporting Members who go out into the field.

USJE National President David Neufeld, Regional Vice-President Carol Osborne and Local President JR Legault visited the Downtown Toronto Parole Office on July 25, the Hamilton Parole Office on July 26, and the Keele Community Correctional Centre on July 27. They spoke to members about job security, the “new normal,” and other workplace issues.
On July 22, Regional Vice-President, CSC Community – PBC (West), Jeff Sandelli met with Conservative MP Raquel Dancho (Kildonan—St. Paul) to discuss the crucial front-line work of USJE members that contributes directly to public safety. Dancho was appointed Shadow Minister for Public Safety and vice-chair of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in November 2021.
