“More people in our neighbourhoods are struggling to find stable housing than ever before,” said Kelly Gilson, Executive Director at United Way Oxford. “We need community partnerships and contributions from organizations like USJE to help us meet that need”.
In fall 2025, the USJE Mobilization and Member Engagement committee launched a promotional pilot project in partnership with Sock Rocket involving the purchase of USJE-branded socks at a subsidized rate. The initiative gave locals and individual members an opportunity to engage directly by ordering and distributing more than 1,000 pairs of socks. In addition to securing a bulk discount, the project also included a donation component: for every regular purchase, Sock Rocket provided three additional pairs of socks to support community organizations.
During a virtual meeting on May 12, 2026, the USJE National Executive approved a donation of $870 from unrestricted reserves to Hestia House, a long-standing shelter supporting women and children experiencing abuse in Saint John.
Natasha Drover, USJE member and resident of Conception Bay South, nominated the Search and Rescue for the donation from USJE’s Community Investment Initiative. This initiative is dedicated to improving public safety in neighbourhoods and supporting local projects across Canada.
If a vulnerable community member wanders, their bracelet emits a unique radio frequency signal that trained SSAR volunteers can detect.
USJE pledged $5,000 in support to those members who are part of the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE).
The delegation learned about Turning Leaf’s remarkable work supporting people who have confronted major barriers such as homelessness, addictions, discrimination, sexual exploitation, societal stigmas, lack of access to meaningful employment and/or resources, and behaviour that brings them into conflict with the law.
Earlier today, representatives of the Union of Safety and Justice Employees visited Children North in La Ronge, Saskatchewan – Treaty 6 Territory, Traditional Land of the Woodland Cree and Homeland of the Metis – to see first-hand how their partnership assists children requiring pediatric therapies.
RVP Andréanne Samson presented a cheque for $10,000 to Le Parados, a housing initiative in Montreal for women and children who have experienced abuse. This initiative will provide crucial transitional housing, supporting women and children as they shift from living in shelters to permanent housing.
