Budget cuts

All CSC members are invited to attend information sessions on July 7 with National President David Neufeld.All USJE members who received an Affected notice from the Correctional Service of Canada during the week of June 22nd, are invited to an important Virtual Information Session. USJE’s National President David Neufeld, USJE’s Director of Labour Relations, Melanie Crescenzi and a PSAC expert on Workforce Adjustment will be on the call.

The Union of Safety and Justice Employees is expressing its significant concern regarding the recent decision by the Correctional Service of (CSC) to cut 144 positions that USJE members occupy as part of its Workforce Adjustment (WFA) process.

On May 28, USJE members across the country came together for a National Day of Mobilization in response to ongoing workforce adjustments (WFA). Taking place in multiple regions, these events represented a demonstration of solidarity at a time where many workers are facing uncertainty about their roles, their workplaces, and their futures.

President Neufeld provided members with a comprehensive update on the union’s budget cuts campaign, with a focus on actions being taken to counter the incoming workforce adjustment.

April 8, 2026:  Community Employment Coordinators (CECs) have served as specialized reintegration federal employees within the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). They are responsible for connecting federally supervised offenders to employment opportunities, coordinating employer relationships, and supporting case management teams in managing employment-related risk factors.

On March 26, 2026, following a USJE information picket that was part of a cross-Canada mobilization event, RVPs Laurie Ann Wesselby and Carol Osborne attended the CORCAN Community Industries site in Moncton, NB. This marked RVP Osborne’s first visit of the CORCAN site.

On March 26, USJE members from across the country took part in mobilization events to bring attention to Workforce Adjustments currently taking place in the federal public service.

The Union of Safety and Justice Employees launched its groundbreaking, independently commissioned research on the experiences and perspectives of federal Correctional Program Officers on March 25, 2026. 

USJE members in Yellowknife held a rally on March 4 despite frigid temperatures first thing in the morning, drawing media attention for the “first rally at -50 degrees in 20 years.”
